Scout Expectations

Living by the Scout Oath, Law, and Motto

Living by the Scout Oath

The Scout Oath is a pledge of honor and commitment to Scouting's values:

"On my honor, I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight."

This oath is a daily reminder of your duty to serve, lead, and strive for excellence in all areas of life. By living the Scout Oath, you commit to:

  • Duty to God and Country - Show respect, gratitude, and service to your faith, community, and nation.
  • Obeying the Scout Law - Uphold honesty, kindness, and responsibility in your words and actions.
  • Helping Others - Be ready to lend a hand to those in need, demonstrating kindness and leadership.
  • Personal Growth - Maintain physical health, stay mentally sharp, and make ethical choices.

Living by the Scout Law

The Scout Law serves as your guide for making ethical and honorable decisions. A Scout is:

  • Trustworthy - Always be honest and reliable.
  • Loyal - Stand by your troop, family, and friends.
  • Helpful - Assist others without expecting a reward.
  • Friendly - Be kind and respectful to everyone.
  • Courteous - Show good manners in all situations.
  • Kind - Treat others and the environment with care.
  • Obedient - Follow rules and respect authority.
  • Cheerful - Maintain a positive attitude, even in difficult situations.
  • Thrifty - Use resources wisely and be financially responsible.
  • Brave - Stand up for what is right, even when it is difficult.
  • Clean - Keep yourself, your surroundings, and your mind pure.
  • Reverent - Show respect for your beliefs and those of others.

By following the Scout Law, you build a reputation as a leader and a role model, both in Scouting and beyond.

Living by the Scout Motto: "Be Prepared"

The Scout Motto, "Be Prepared", means always being ready to face challenges with the necessary skills, knowledge, and attitude. This applies to:

  • Personal Responsibility - Plan ahead and be ready for any task or situation.
  • Leadership - Step up to help others and take initiative.
  • Emergency Situations - Be trained and ready to assist in times of need.
  • Everyday Life - Approach each day with confidence, discipline, and a willingness to grow.

By embracing the Scout Oath, Law, and Motto, you develop the qualities of leadership, service, and character that define a true Scout. Your commitment to these principles will shape your journey, preparing you for success in Scouting and in life.
